Versilia and surroundings

Which places belong to Versilia, which are in the vicinity and what distinguishes them.

"Versilia" is the name of the coastal area in Tuscany between the Ligurian Sea and the Apuan Alps, which stretches along the beach across the provinces of Lucca and Massa-Carrara. The 12 km long river of the same name gives this area its name. The "Versilia" area includes the municipalities of Camaiore, Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi, Seravezza and Stazzema. Adjacent between the municipalities of Versilia are the towns of Viareggio. Massa and Carrara.

Viareggio

This city has everything your heart desires. At the sea you can either go to a lido or, as an insider tip, to the free beach of Lecciona. The beautiful beach promenade is perfect for a stroll, an "aperitivo" or to go shopping. Viareggio is also a great destination for art lovers thanks to its refined Art Nouveau decorations that characterize the whole city.

The city is also known for its big carnival every year with its huge papier-mâché floats.

Camaiore

The municipality of Camaiore has everything to offer. The center is quiet with lots of greenery and stately buildings from the past, close to the Apuan Alps, while the district of Lido di Camaoire is directly on the beach. Lido di Camaiore is one of the most famous beach resorts in Versilia and therefore attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world every year.

Pietrasanta

The city got its name from a Milanese named Guiscardo Pietrasanta, who built a settlement out of an existing fortress. Even today, the small town has a lot of charm due to the buildings that were built back then. This municipality also stretches from the foot of the Apuan Alps to the beach, where the popular district of Marina di Pietrasanta is located. Known as the premier international center for artistic marbleworking, beautiful works of art can be found throughout the community and great downtown events displaying them.

Forte dei Marmi

Forte dei Marmi is one of the most visited places in Versilia. One of the most luxurious and exclusive resorts on the Ligurian Sea, there is no shortage of lovely cafes, bars, hotels, shops and boutiques. Many emigrants from all over the world are drawn there every year. Known as the place for the rich and famous, you will also find exclusive lidos, first-class restaurants and beautiful luxury properties here. The well-known market of Forte dei Marmi also offers a great typical Italian experience and quality products from all over Italy.

Massarosa

The extensive municipality of Massarosa is located between Viareggio and Monte Quiesa. In addition to many beautiful villas and lots of greenery, the "Lago di Massaciuccolli" can be found in the district of Massaciuccoli. The place on the extensive freshwater lagoon is perfect for excursions in the Migliarino Nature Park, a bike ride or a horseback ride or a boat trip. For nature lovers, Massarosa is the perfect place to take a break from the beach and the tourist boom.

Seravezza

In The RiverVersiliaarises in Seravezza from the confluence of the rivers Serra and Vezza, which received the name from the place. This authentic mountain village is located in the middle of forest, mountains, marble quarries and beautiful landscapes.  In a place that is very different from those on the coast, it is actually hard to see that you can reach the beach town in just 15 minutes by car Forte dei Marmi can be reached. This place shows once again the diversity of Versilia.

Stazzema

With around 600 residents, Stazzema is the smallest community in Versilia. The scattered community with 18 districts is about 12 kilometers from Seravezza and at 443 meters above sea level. thus also the highest place of Versilia. Here you will find many paths of hiking trails with which you can reach all sorts of places and the peaks of the Apuanes.

So for hiking lovers this is a perfect destination to go on beautiful hikes with breathtaking views of the sea and the mountains.

Massa and Carrara

Massa-Carrara is the first province in Tuscany. Known for the marble quarries and the famous "Carrara marble" you will also find lidos and hiking trails in the countryside. Compared to the regions in Versilia, the two cities are less touristy. What is perfect about this province is that from here you can reach all of the most beautiful places in Tuscany and Liguria within a very short time.
